LEUSD’s Response to Regional Stay At Home Order of Dec. 5

The Governor announced a Regional Stay at Home Order on December 3rd effective statewide on December 5, 2020. This is to outline how the new Order affects employees and district operations.

CDPH State Health Considerations

  • The goal of the Regional Stay at Home Order is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, so hospitals will not be overwhelmed once full capacity is reached.
  • Hospitals will be at capacity by mid-December without action, resulting from the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases on top of other illnesses. All hospital healthcare and emergency services are at risk of being compromised if our healthcare system is overwhelmed.
  • Terms of the Order are triggered when the adult ICU bed capacity falls below 15% in any of the five geographic regions.
  • Because available ICU capacity in the Southern California Region was at 10.3% on December 6, well below the 15% threshold, our region is now subject to the full terms of the order as of 11:59 p.m., Sunday, December 6th.
  • California Department of Public Health Guidance related to schools remain in effect and unchanged, including the current Distance Learning model.

District Recommendations

In addition to prior occupancy restrictions in classrooms, schools, offices and all other district facilities, these recommendations are effective immediately through Thursday, December 24, 2020.

  1. Effective immediately, it is highly recommended that teachers work from home instead of using classrooms, to the greatest extent possible.
  2. Paraeducators should communicate with their supervisors to arrange to work from home instead of at school and other district locations, if not already doing so.
  3. One-on-one assessments shall continue.
  4. High School student athletic conditioning and workouts are suspended until January 4, 2021.
  5. Department heads shall encourage work from home without diminishing critical functions and responsibilities.
  6. District Employee childcare services for employees at schools remain suspended until further notice.
  7. School Site Custodial staffing will be at 50% per day within a 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. time frame.
  8. Employee leaves will continue as approved.
  9. Work schedules determined through the interactive process will continue as established.
  10. If reporting to work, continue self-screening using the ParentSquare app.
  11. IMPORTANT: if you indicate you are feeling one or more symptoms, do not come to work—stay home, please!

Please contact your supervisor if you have any questions. Our next situation update will be prior to Monday, January 4, 2021.
